Our business has been running since 2005 doing transcription in all sectors of the field including general, medical, legal and academic, and typing services – we’ve edited, transcribed and typed everything from dissertations, interviews, books and studies to forensic reports and more!
From 2005 – to the future!
By 2008 we had grown to such a point that we registered as a close corporation – and by then we had fibre and were permanently connected! The same year, together with Alision Fourie of AMF Typing Services, we founded TAVASA – the first support forum for VAs and transcribers in South Africa of its kind.
We’ve seen all the technological changes that have happened since 2005 – when we started out using dial-up internet, Skype, and cellphones that certainly weren’t smart! The advent of broadband internet was a big step for us because it allowed us to be permanently connected. We’ve been through Mixit, SMS, BBM and WhatsApp (which was a game changer for us, because now we could do face to face calls and instant messaging out and about, and almost all communication is via WhatsApp now).
Fibre allowed even more.
Throughout our history, we have weathered numerous storms – economic downturns, political upheaval, and in 2020 and 2021, Covid, when many businesses closed, and clients lost their jobs. South Africa has faced much infrastructural decline since 2005 and we have dealt and still deal with water and electrical crises (we have back up electricity and alternative places to work).
We’re still standing. Typewrite is now in its 21st year of operation and in keeping with changing technological developments and market requirements has added services such as copy-editing, minute-taking, proofreading AI, proposal writing, CV writing and preparation of business plans, among others.
