My process for academic editing includes:

• ensuring formatting including document language is correct according to the style being used (APA/MLA/etc);
• ensuring that references are captured correctly both in-text and at the end according to the style being used;
• ensuring that ALL references have been captured;
• an initial read, checking for:
  • language errors, including:
    •  grammatical;
    • abbreviation;
    • conjunctions; etc.
  • correct use of punctuation;
  • consistent use of spacing;
• an in-depth read to check for:
  • run on sentences;
  • clarity of phrase and words;
  • repetition;
  • paragraph order;
  • wordiness;
  • consistency of style;
  • homophones
• a third read to ensure good flow and readability;
• making comments and suggestions wherever necessary, and
• providing a full breakdown of every stage undertaken
